  • The main House- Vikingsholm.  
Built in 1929 by Mrs. Lora J. Knight as a summer residence.   Mrs. Knight purchased the island in Emerald Bay and land on either bank up to the road in 1928 for $250k, and had the house built for another $125k.
An avid traveler, Mrs. Smith favored the Scandinavian architecture that is so faithfully represented in this magnificant house.
The property is now part of the California State Parks System.

  • Helen Henry Smith, Park Guide.  She and her parents were frequent guests of Mrs. Lora J. Knight- Vikingsholm's builder and hostess.  Smith spent 14 summers enjoying life at Emerald Bay, and has treated Park visitors to Vikingsholm's history and lore for the past 37 years.
