City of Pompei, discovered in 1748 and excavated from the 79AD eruption of Mt Vesuvius. These excavations lie just outside the Porta Marina entry gate to the city.
Temple of Apollo, typical of those built by the Romans (which were raised off the ground and had a surrounding courtyard for worshipers). The white Ionic column on the left has a working sundial atop it.
